    Azulejos

    This detail is of the azulejos with floral designs from the 17th century Church of Santa Monica, Old Goa. Azulejos are glazed ceramic tiles having Islamic influence. They are generating blue and white in colour. The designs of the azulejos were geometric and later evolved to floral and figurative designs.

    Chasuble detail

    These details are from a white silk chasuble from the Museum's collection. It's is embroidered in gold thread with palm leaf motifs and stylized red carnations. In the centre, a silk and gold embroidered pineapple is visible. The chasuble is the most visible vestment used by the priests at the celebration of mass.

    Mural

    This detail is from the mural around the pulpit in the 17th century Church of Santa Monica, Old Goa. Unlike most pulpits with wooden carvings, this pulpit made of stone, has a mural around it with floral and geometric designs. The original pigments used were pink (derived by mixing red ochre and lime), black (organic black) and gilding (using gold leaf).

    Sgraffito

    This detail on the keyring is found in the Arch of the Church of Santa Monica, Old Goa. Sgraffito is a technique of wall art decoration where a design is scratched out on on a wet lime plastered wall and then exposed surface is filled in with a paste of red soil, charcoal and a binding agent to render it red in colour.
